The One Happy Workation has a simplified entry process with no separate visa application:

1. Choose a participating accommodation and book a workation package (over 30 properties are available, from boutique hotels and major resorts to private villas)
2. Complete the online Embarkation and Disembarkation (ED) Card at edcardaruba.aw within 7 days of departure, selecting "One Happy Workation" as the purpose of visit
3. Pay the USD 20 Sustainability Fee during ED Card completion (applies once per rolling 12-month period to all non-resident air arrivals; children under 8 are exempt; automatic exemptions apply for repeat travellers within 12 months since July 2025)

For 2025-26, the visa sits within the new Talent and Innovation planning category with 4,300 places, consolidating the former Global Talent Independent, Distinguished Talent, and National Innovation visa programs under a unified framework.

- Currently prominent in your profession, sport, the arts, academia, or research

The NIV operates on an invitation-only basis through a two-stage process. Competition is intense — over 9,000 EOIs have been submitted with fewer than 310 invitations issued.

**Stage 1 - Expression of Interest (EOI):** Submit an EOI online through the Department of Home Affairs. EOIs are assessed and invitations issued in monthly rounds based on four priority tiers:

- **Priority 1:** Global experts and recipients of international top-of-field awards from any sector
- **Priority 2:** Candidates nominated by an approved Australian government agency via Form 1000

Progressive income tax rates range from 0% to 55% (tax-free threshold €13,308/year in 2026). Self-employed artists must register with the tax office and file annual returns. Self-employed artists earning profits up to €33,000 may deduct 15% as a basic profit allowance. Austria maintains an extensive network of double taxation agreements.

## Application Process

Self-employed artists apply in person at the Austrian embassy or consulate in their home country. The embassy verifies documents and forwards the application to the provincial settlement authority. For employed artists, the application is also forwarded to the AMS (Austrian Labour Market Service) for assessment within 3 weeks. Upon approval, the embassy issues an entry visa — the applicant must request it within 3 months and collect the permit within 6 months. The authority has up to 6 months to decide. Application fee is €218.

Spouse/registered partner and unmarried minor children may apply, subject to quota availability

Initially up to 12 months, renewable for 3 years after 2 years of residence. Permanent residence after 5 years

Minimum net income of €1,308.93/month for single person (2026 ASVG reference rate). €2,064.12 for couples, plus €201.88 per child
