D7 Passive Income Visa
Portugal's D7 visa is one of the most popular passive income visas in Europe. It's designed for retirees and individuals with stable passive income from pensions, investments, rental income, or other sources. Provides a clear path to permanent residence and Portuguese citizenship after 5 years.
- Proof of stable passive income (pensions, investments, rental income, dividends)
- Valid passport with at least 6 months validity
- Proof of accommodation in Portugal (rental contract or property deed)
- Private health insurance valid in Portugal
- Clean criminal record from country of origin and any country lived in 1+ year
- NIF (Portuguese tax number)
- Proof of sufficient funds in Portuguese bank account
- Cannot engage in employment in Portugal
- Remote work for non-Portuguese clients is generally permitted
- Must spend majority of time in Portugal to maintain residency
- Become Portuguese tax resident (but NHR regime may reduce tax burden)
Processing time: 2-4 months
Fee: Approximately €90 visa fee + €83 residence permit fee
Apply at Portuguese consulate. After arrival, schedule appointment with AIMA to convert to residence permit
