Digital Nomad Visa - Residence Permit
Residence visa for digital nomads that can be exchanged for a 2-year residence permit upon arrival in Portugal. Provides longer-term residency option.
- Proof of remote work (employment contract or freelance contracts with non-Portuguese clients)
- Monthly income of at least €3,680 (4× Portuguese minimum wage)
- Bank balance of at least €11,040
- Valid passport
- Health insurance covering Portugal
- Proof of accommodation in Portugal
- Clean criminal record
- Must exchange visa for residence permit within 4 months of arrival
- Must work remotely for non-Portuguese companies or clients
- Cannot be employed by Portuguese companies
- Must maintain minimum income throughout stay
- Must reside primarily in Portugal to maintain residence permit
Processing time: Varies by consulate
Apply at Portuguese consulate in country of citizenship or official residence. After arrival, exchange visa for residence permit at AIMA (immigration office)
