The Talent (Arts, Culture, Sports) Work Visa is a work-to-residence visa enabling foreign nationals with exceptional talent in arts, culture, or sport to live and work in New Zealand for up to 30 months, with a pathway to permanent residence. Unlike other New Zealand talent visas, this programme does not require employer sponsorship -- holders may work in any occupation for any employer. Applicants must be supported by a New Zealand organisation of national repute in their declared field and have an acceptable sponsor who guarantees accommodation and financial support. The programme targets internationally recognised artists, athletes, performers, and cultural practitioners whose presence will enhance New Zealand's achievements in their field. ## Duration & Renewal

The work visa is valid for up to 30 months and is not typically renewed. The intended pathway is to apply for the Talent (Arts, Culture, Sports) Resident Visa after 24 months of active engagement in the declared field. Holders must enter New Zealand within 3 months of visa approval and may travel in and out of New Zealand for the duration of the visa.

## Family Members

Partner and dependent children cannot be included in the initial work visa application and must apply for their own visas separately (for example, a Partnership-Based Work Visa for partners). After the main applicant has been actively engaged in their declared field for 24 months, they may include their partner and dependent children (aged 24 or younger) in the Talent (Arts, Culture, Sports) Resident Visa application. Partners and children aged 16 and over must demonstrate English language competency through acceptable test results, English-speaking background proof, or the applicant may pay for English language classes on their behalf.

## Tax Implications

New Zealand tax residents (present 183+ days in any 12-month period) are taxed on worldwide income. New migrants may qualify for a 4-year transitional tax exemption on most foreign-sourced income, excluding employment income earned overseas. New Zealand has no capital gains tax on most assets. ## Path to Residence

## Duration & Renewal

The visa is valid for up to 2 years with multiple entry and exit permitted. There is no minimum presence requirement. To renew, applicants submit a new application and must demonstrate that the NZD $750,000 investment was maintained in acceptable investments throughout the previous visa and that acceptable insurance was maintained throughout. There is no limit on the number of times the visa can be renewed.

## Family Members

A partner (spouse, civil union partner, or de facto partner) may be included in the application if they meet all health and character requirements independently. The combined annual income of the applicant and partner can count toward the NZD $60,000 income requirement. Jointly-owned investment funds with the included partner count at full value if the partnership is genuine and stable. Dependent children cannot be included under any circumstances.

Holders present in New Zealand for more than 183 days in any 12-month period become New Zealand tax residents, taxed on worldwide income. New Zealand does not have a dedicated digital nomad visa. Instead, since 27 January 2025, all visitor visas and New Zealand Electronic Travel Authorities (NZeTAs) applied for on or after that date automatically include conditions permitting unlimited remote work for overseas employers or clients. The policy was introduced as part of the government's "Going for Growth" initiative, recognizing that remote workers tend to stay longer and spend more than typical short-term tourists. No separate application, endorsement, or additional fee is required -- remote work permission is built into the standard visitor visa framework.

## Requirements

- Valid passport with at least 3 months validity beyond planned departure date
- Employed by or contracted to an entity outside New Zealand, or self-employed serving overseas clients

## Duration & Renewal

The visitor visa allows stays of up to 9 months within any 18-month period on a single-entry visa, or up to 6 months within any 12-month period on a multiple-entry visa. The NZeTA (for visa-waiver nationals) permits stays of up to 3 months per visit (6 months for UK citizens), with the NZeTA itself valid for 2 years covering multiple entries.

Visitor visas cannot be renewed in the traditional sense. To extend your stay, you must apply for a new visa, subject to the maximum stay limits. Single-entry visas expire upon departure from New Zealand.

## Family Members

There is no separate dependant category under the remote work provision. Each family member -- spouse, partner, or child -- must hold their own visitor visa or NZeTA. Partner and dependent child visitor visas have separate application streams with their own eligibility requirements and documentation, including relationship evidence and identity documents. Guardian visitor visas are available for parents accompanying international students. Each applicant pays their own visa fee and International Visitor Conservation and Tourism Levy (IVL). All visitor visas applied for on or after 27 January 2025 include the same remote work permission.

## Tax Implications

Visitors may owe New Zealand income tax depending on the length of their stay. If income is taxed in another country and the visitor is present fewer than 92 days in any 12-month period, the income is generally exempt from NZ tax. For tax residents of the 40+ countries with which New Zealand has a Double Tax Agreement (DTA), this exemption period extends to 183 days.

Visitors present in New Zealand for more than 183 days in any 12-month period become New Zealand tax residents, with residency backdated to the first of those 183 days. Proposed legislation would, from 1 April 2026, create a "non-resident visitor" category exempt from NZ tax on overseas income for stays of up to 275 days in any 18-month period.

The NZeTA app allows requesting for up to 10 people simultaneously. All visitor visas applied for on or after 27 January 2025 automatically include remote work permission -- no separate application is needed.

## Entry & Arrival

All visitors must complete a New Zealand Traveller Declaration (NZTD) online within 24 hours before travel. Upon arrival, immigration officers grant either a Visa Waiver Visitor Visa (for NZeTA holders) or confirm visitor visa conditions. No biometric registration, local ID issuance, or mandatory post-arrival reporting is required. Multiple-entry visa holders may travel freely in and out of New Zealand during the visa validity period.

## Employment Restrictions

Remote work is permitted only for employers or clients located outside New Zealand. Visa holders must not work for a New Zealand-based employer, provide goods or services to people or businesses in New Zealand, perform work requiring physical presence at a New Zealand workplace, or promote New Zealand-based activities, events, or products for compensation from local entities. Content creators and social media influencers must be careful not to accept compensation from NZ-based businesses -- for example, accepting free accommodation in exchange for reviewing a New Zealand property would breach visa conditions.

## Important Notes

- The remote work permission applies only to visas applied for on or after 27 January 2025. Visitors with earlier visas must apply for a variation of conditions.
- The visitor visa does not lead to residency or permanent residence -- it is a temporary entry class visa only.
- Health insurance is not a mandatory visa condition but is strongly recommended, as publicly funded health services are generally not available to visitors.

## Business Requirements

Before applying for an FIAC, investors must complete several steps: reserve a business name with the Corporate Registrar at the Office of the Attorney General, pay the registration fee to the Bureau of the Treasury and register the company, and identify a business location with a provisional agreement with the landowner or landlord including title search, clearances, and zoning approvals if necessary. The FIB has 90 days to review FIAC applications. Foreign nationals cannot own land in Palau, so business premises must be leased from Palauan citizens or entities.

This is permanent residence; after 8 years of continuous residence, the holder may apply for citizenship by naturalization under Section 6B of the Citizenship Act; applicants must maintain continuous presence with no single absence exceeding 180 days

Papua New Guinea's Investor Permanent Residence (Business Investor class) grants indefinite residence to foreign nationals who have made substantial business or property investments in the country. The program is administered by the Immigration and Citizenship Authority (ICA) under the Migration Act 1978. Successful applicants receive a permanent residence visa valid for the life of their passport, with unrestricted employment rights and unlimited entries and exits. ## Tax Implications

Residents of PNG (including permanent residents spending 183 or more days per year) are taxed on worldwide income at progressive rates up to 42%. Non-residents are taxed only on PNG-sourced income at rates from 22% to 42%.

## Path to Citizenship

After eight years of continuous residence, permanent residents may apply for citizenship by naturalization. Applicants must maintain continuous presence with no single absence exceeding 180 days.

## Application Process

Applicants download Form 1A from the ICA website (ica.gov.pg) and submit the completed form with all supporting documentation and the K5,000 application fee at the ICA head office in Boroko, NCD, or at an ICA overseas mission. Samoa's Citizenship Investment Program offers foreign nationals a pathway to Samoan citizenship through qualifying capital investment in the country's economy. Established under the Citizenship Investment Act 2015 and the Citizenship Investment Regulations 2016, the program has been in force since January 2017. It is administered by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Labour (MCIL) through the Citizenship Investment Committee. The program follows a phased approach: investors first receive a temporary resident permit, then a three-year permanent resident permit, and finally become eligible to apply for citizenship — a minimum three-year pathway from permanent residency. Samoa permits dual citizenship following constitutional amendments in 2004.

## Requirements

- Citizens of any country may apply
- Minimum net worth of WST 2.5 million (approximately USD 907,000) at the time of application

## Duration & Renewal

Upon committee approval, a temporary resident permit is issued while the permanent residence application is processed. A three-year permanent resident permit is then granted. The window to apply for citizenship opens 3 months before the permanent resident permit expires; MCIL provides written notification at least 6 months before the deadline. Citizenship, once granted, is permanent. The standard Samoan residency pathway requires 5 years of permanent residence before citizenship eligibility, making the investment program significantly faster.

## Family Members

Spouse and dependent children may be included in the main application. Elderly parents and grandparents over 65 are also eligible. Each family member undergoes due diligence checks and a full medical examination. Due diligence fees are USD 7,500 for the investor and spouse combined, and USD 1,750 per child under 18. All family members must also meet the 15-day annual physical presence requirement in Samoa during the permanent residency period.

## Tax Implications

Samoa does not levy tax on foreign-sourced income. There is no capital gains tax or inheritance tax. Corporate tax rates apply to businesses registered in Samoa. This makes the program potentially attractive for investors with significant offshore income or assets.

## Application Process

Applications must be submitted in person to the Industry Development and Investment Promotion division of MCIL, which serves as the secretariat of the Citizenship Investment Committee. The Committee will only examine an application if:

1. The application and due diligence fees have been paid in full (USD 7,500 for investor and spouse; USD 1,750 per child under 18)
2. Proof of the fixed deposit account with at least 70% of the investment amount has been provided
3. The due diligence check report has been received

The Citizenship Investment Committee is chaired by the CEO of MCIL and includes the CEOs of the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Revenue, the Ministry of Prime Minister and Cabinet, and the Governor of the Central Bank of Samoa. Processing time for the residency application is approximately 3–6 months. After approval, the investor must enter Samoa and begin implementing the approved investment plan. Citizenship eligibility is reached after three years of permanent residency.

## Investment Restrictions

Investments must be in sectors listed in the Schedule to the Citizenship Investment Act 2015 and must not fall on the Reserved List under the Foreign Investment Act 2000.
