Golden Residency Visa for Talented Individuals

Bahrain's Golden Residency Visa for Talented Individuals is a 10-year self-sponsored residence permit for foreign nationals with exceptional skills or achievements in academic, entrepreneurial, scientific, artistic, or sporting fields. Launched in February 2022 as part of Bahrain's Economic Vision 2030, the program allows recognized talent to reside in Bahrain with the right to work, sponsor family, and enjoy unlimited entry and exit — without employer sponsorship or a minimum income requirement. It is the only Golden Residency category that grants residency based purely on recognized exceptional achievement, without requiring prior residence, property ownership, or salary history.

The Golden Residency is issued for 10 years and is renewable indefinitely, provided the applicant continues to meet the eligibility criteria. The same documentation requirements apply at renewal. Payment of the BHD 300 residency fee must be made within 30 days of approval or the application is automatically cancelled.

Holders may sponsor immediate family members including spouse, children, and parents. Family members receive the same benefits as the primary applicant, including the right to work in Bahrain and unlimited entry and exit. Family applications are submitted through the "Golden Residency Visa Issuance for Relatives" eService.

Bahrain levies no personal income tax, no capital gains tax, and no corporate income tax on individuals. Golden Residency holders may apply for tax residency status upon meeting additional conditions determined by the National Bureau for Revenue.

Applications are submitted online through the eGovernment portal at services.bahrain.bh. The application fee is BHD 5 (non-refundable) plus a BHD 300 issuance fee, totaling BHD 305 (~USD 808). Processing takes approximately 10 working days. For applicants outside Bahrain, a Golden Entry Visa is issued first to facilitate entry, followed by the in-country residency issuance. Golden Residency holders must spend a minimum of 90 days per year in Bahrain to maintain their residency status. The permit provides unlimited entry and exit privileges with no restrictions on the number of trips.

The key requirement is recognition by a "relevant government authority in Bahrain" or an "accredited business incubator." The exact list of qualifying authorities and incubators is not exhaustively published, so applicants should verify in advance whether their credentials will be accepted. Holders receive a 10-year national ID card (CPR card) upon establishment and are not tied to any single employer — they can freely change employment, freelance, or establish businesses.
