Remote Worker KITAS
Indonesia's Remote Worker KITAS (Kartu Izin Tinggal Terbatas), classified under visa index E33G, is the country's dedicated digital nomad visa for foreign nationals who work remotely for employers, clients, or businesses located outside Indonesia. Launched on 1 April 2024 by the Directorate General of Immigration under the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, the program targets remote employees, freelancers, and business owners earning their income entirely from foreign sources. It is the only Indonesian visa category explicitly designed for remote workers employed by foreign entities.

- Personal bank balance of at least USD 2,000 maintained over the preceding 3 months

- Citizens of Afghanistan, Cameroon, Guinea, Israel, Kosovo, Liberia, Nigeria, North Korea, and Somalia are not eligible
- No specific educational or professional qualifications required
- Valid passport (minimum 18 months validity, 3 blank pages)

- Employment contract or letter of engagement with a company registered outside Indonesia
- Certificate of incorporation of the employing company

The visa is issued for 1 year with multi-entry privileges, allowing unlimited exits and re-entries during its validity. It can be renewed for one additional year, for a maximum total stay of 2 years. Renewal must be initiated from within Indonesia at least 30 days before expiration and requires re-submission of documentation and payment of fees. The holder must enter Indonesia within 90 days of e-visa issuance or the visa becomes void.
Since December 2025, family members of E33G holders may obtain a Dependent KITAS. Eligible dependants include spouses, children, parents, and siblings, each under a specific dependent visa category. Dependent applications can only be submitted after the main KITAS has been issued and are processed offshore only. The dependent KITAS is valid for up to 1 year, limited by the remaining validity of the main holder's permit. Government fees are approximately IDR 10,200,000 per dependant. Specific supporting documents such as marriage certificates, birth certificates, or sibling birth certificates are required depending on the relationship.
- VITAS e-visa fee: USD 150
- ITAS (1-year limited stay permit): IDR 3,000,000
- Multiple Exit Re-Entry Permit (MERP, 1 year): IDR 1,500,000
- Total government fees: approximately USD 150 + IDR 4,500,000
Indonesia does not automatically exempt E33G holders from income tax. Foreign nationals who reside in Indonesia for more than 183 days within a 12-month period become domestic tax subjects and are liable for tax on worldwide income. Tax residents must obtain a Taxpayer Identification Number (NPWP) and file annual returns with the Directorate General of Taxes.
The application is submitted entirely online through Indonesia's official e-Visa portal (evisa.imigrasi.go.id). The process works as follows:
- Create an account on the e-Visa portal and select the E33G visa type
- Upload all required documents in digital format and pay the VITAS fee (USD 150)
- Wait for processing (typically 7-14 working days)
- Upon approval, receive an electronic visa (e-Visa)
- Enter Indonesia within 90 days of issuance; the entry stamp serves as the ITAS
- Visit a local immigration office for biometric registration and collection of the physical KITAS card
- Register with local police (Surat Tanda Melapor / STM) and neighbourhood administration (RT/RW)
English-language documents are accepted. Documents in other languages must be translated into Indonesian by a sworn translator. Applications may also be processed through Indonesian embassies/consulates or authorised visa agents.
Holders may only work remotely for entities located outside Indonesia. Working for Indonesian companies, receiving income from Indonesian sources, selling goods or services in Indonesia, or engaging in any for-profit activity with Indonesian individuals or entities is strictly prohibited. The E33G does not provide a path to permanent residency or citizenship.
