Digital Nomad Visa
The Cyprus Digital Nomad Visa is a temporary residence permit that allows non-EU/EEA nationals to live in Cyprus while working remotely for employers or clients located outside the country. Launched in October 2021, the programme has been expanded several times and now offers up to 1,000 permits per year. It is administered by the Migration Department of the Deputy Ministry of Migration and International Protection.
- National of a non-EU/non-EEA country, at least 18 years old
- Employed by a company registered outside Cyprus or self-employed serving foreign clients
- Work must be performed remotely using information and communications technology
- Stable monthly net income of at least €3,500 (after taxes and contributions), demonstrated through 6 months of bank statements
- Valid passport or travel document
- Health insurance covering inpatient and outpatient care in Cyprus, including repatriation, with minimum coverage of €30,000
- Proof of accommodation in Cyprus (rental agreement or property title deed)
- Clean criminal record certificate from country of origin or residence

The initial permit is valid for 1 year. It can be renewed for up to 2 additional years, for a maximum total stay of 3 years. Renewal applications must be submitted at least one month before the permit expires, at the Migration Department in Nicosia. All supporting documents must be resubmitted with the renewal application.
Spouses, civil union partners, and minor children may accompany the digital nomad and receive residence permits for the same duration. Each family member must submit a separate application with their own supporting documents. The income requirement increases by 20% for a spouse or partner and by 15% for each dependent child. Family members are not permitted to work or engage in any economic activity in Cyprus.
Digital nomads who spend 183 or more days in Cyprus during a tax year become tax residents and are subject to Cyprus income tax on worldwide income. The first €19,500 of annual income is tax-free. Individuals who are tax resident but non-domiciled in Cyprus are exempt from Special Defence Contribution on dividends, interest, and rental income for the first 17 years. Cyprus also has a 60-day tax residency rule for individuals meeting certain conditions.
Applicants must first enter Cyprus, typically on a tourist visa or visa-free entry, and submit their application in person at the Migration Department headquarters in Nicosia within 3 months of arrival. Applications may also be submitted through an authorised representative. Biometric data (photograph, fingerprints, and signature) is collected during submission. All documents must be in Greek or English, or officially translated and certified. Processing takes approximately 5 to 7 weeks. The application fee is €70, plus a one-time €70 registration fee in the Aliens' Registry for first-time applicants.
- The programme is subject to an annual quota of 1,000 permits; applications may not be accepted once the cap is reached
- The digital nomad visa does not lead to permanent residency or citizenship
- Cyprus is an EU member state but is not part of the Schengen Area
- There is no online application portal; applications are only accepted in person or via an authorised representative at the Nicosia office
