Elective Residence Visa (Passive Income)
Italy's Elective Residence Visa is designed for retirees and individuals with passive income who wish to live in Italy without working. This visa is ideal for those with rental income, investments, pensions, or other passive income sources. It provides a pathway to permanent residency after 5 years.
- Proof of stable passive income (pensions, investments, rental income, dividends)
- Valid passport with at least 15 months validity
- Proof of accommodation in Italy (purchase, rental agreement, or invitation letter)
- Private health insurance covering all medical expenses in Italy
- Clean criminal record
- Proof of financial means to support yourself without employment
- Cannot engage in any employment or self-employment in Italy
- Income must be entirely passive - no active work permitted
- Must maintain residence in Italy for majority of the year
- Health insurance must cover full duration of stay
Processing time: 30-90 days
Fee: Approximately €116 visa fee
